Why a Prayer Guide, and Why These Thirty Peoples

The Lord Jesus did not begin His charge concerning the harvest with a recruitment slogan. He began it with a prayer assignment. "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest" (New American Standard Bible, 1995, Matthew 9:37–38). The verb is an imperative. Beseech. Ask. Press the request before the Father.

This guide places the request in your hand and gives it specific names. For thirty days, you will pray for thirty distinct peoples across the Levant, the Gulf, Turkey, and Iran. Twenty-one of them are classified by Joshua Project as Frontier People Groups, which means fewer than one in a thousand among them confess Jesus Christ. Nine of them are Unreached People Groups, which means a small but real Christian witness exists and now needs to be supported, multiplied, and sent. Together they represent a substantial portion of the Arab, Turkic, and Iranian peoples who have not yet entered the new covenant.

Read the entry for each day before you pray it. Speak the names aloud where it helps you. Then ask the Lord of the harvest the question He commanded you to ask: send a worker into this field. Some of the workers He sends will be national believers we have not yet met. Some will be readers of this very page. Pray with the expectation that the Father is moving, and that prayer is the front line of every movement He has ever begun.

How to Use This Guide

Pray. Give. Go.

Every great mission movement in the history of the Church has rested on three legs: Pray, Give, Go. This guide is a support for specific prayer.

Pray with Specificity

Instead of a generic prayer for "the Middle East," let's pray with specifics and expect specific answers. This 30-day guide identifies one people group, one country context, one set of needs, and one scripture anchor. Let's expect together to see our faith made sight!

Give Where You Pray

As you pray through the thirty days, ask the Lord what your part is. Each of us has a role and part in His Great Commission. Predictable funding builds the training that produces the workers we are asking the Father to send.

Go When He Sends

The Lord will send some readers of this guide to the very peoples named here. If the Holy Spirit stirs you toward the field, write to us. We host, train, and place workers alongside national leaders in Beirut and across the region.

Thank You for Standing in This Gap

Julie and I do not take your prayers for granted. The work that the Lord is doing across the Levant, the Gulf, Turkey, and Iran rests, in part, on praying believers in places we will not visit and may never see. The Apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Rome that he longed to come to them so that he might impart some spiritual gift to them, and then immediately corrected himself, "that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine" (New American Standard Bible, 1995, Romans 1:11–12). Your faith, working in prayer for these thirty peoples, encourages our faith here. We are grateful, and we are not finished.

Pray with the expectation that the Lord of the harvest will answer. He commanded us to ask. He intends to send.

Until all have heard, Matt and Julie Hattabaugh
